PROPHECY

Traditionalists have a hard time understanding the distinct difference between;

1.  Prophecy

and

2.  The  "assumed"  implementation of New Covenant Law.

Here are all the most common examples of where Jesus is simply and plainly

prophesying.

Where He is simply giving a shadow, a non-specific, un-obeyable truth.  Truth that is later on going to be implemented as a;

specific, detailed, obeyable, New Covenant Law.

 However that would not happen "until" the arrival of the Day of Pentecost.

(The day the church was born)

(50 days after His crucifixion)

Be sure to note that the prophecy of new covenant law is always broad and general and unspecific, whereas God's distinct New covenant laws are always specific.

A.  John 3:5  Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."

This can only be Prophecy.  It is impossible for this to be implemented new covenant law before Pentecost because there was no Spirit given until the Day of Pentecost (Even the Prophet Joel testifies to this).  Also, it's impossible to obey this prophecy with the limited information that prophecies are always given with.

Here you can see that this prophecy does not give any specific law on "how" to be born of water or how to be born of the Spirit.  And of course the fulfillment of this prophecy in Acts 2:38  "Repent and be Baptized" does give the exact specific obeyable new covenant Law.

B.  Luke 22:19-20  And He took bread and gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, "This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me."  In the same way after the supper He took the cup saying, "This cup is the New Covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

This can only be Prophecy.  It is impossible for this to be implemented new covenant law.  There was no crucified Body to remember and no church to gather prior to the Cross and the Day of Pentecost.

Here you can see that this prophecy does not give any specific Law regarding the fact that Christians are to;

1. Eat the bread and drink the juice in order to remember the crucified sacrificial body and blood of Jesus.

2. That they are to do it in a worthy manner.

3. That they are to recognize the Body (whether Christ's physical body, or the church).

4. They must wait for each other and do it together.

And of course the fulfillment in 1Corinthians 11:23 does give the exact specific obeyable New covenant law.
